Designed as a stretegico military road at the beginning of the 70s, the Transfagarasan has become very quickly a special tourist attraction. It was named to be “The Best Road In The World” by the british television series “Top Gear”, when they filmed one of the best episodes here, on the road that unites Transylvania with Valahia. With a length of 92km (between Capataneni and Cartisoara), the road is provided with 27 viaducts and bridges. Here we also see the longest tunnel in Romania (887m). Along this magnificent road you can see other tourist landmarks as beautiful as the road itself is, such as The Poinerai Fortress, Stan’s Valley Canyon, Vidraru Dam, Capra Waterfall, Balea Lake Resort, Balea Waterfall. You have enough reasons to visit this unique road in Europe, for its beauty, and also for all the landmarks which will offer you unforgettable moments.
