One of the most well-known and beautiful medieval fortifications in Romania, the Poienari Fortress, is waiting to be discovered by curious tourists who are coming to the northern region of Arges county. In order to reach the fortress, you have to climb the 1480 stairs, which cross a beautiful beech wood, but once you are there, the sights are astonishing. A light and relaxing hike through forests near Vidraru’s Dam, leads us easily to Pleasa Meadow. The place from which the whole surface of Vidraru Lake is best seen. After a well-deserved picnic, we’re boarding from the Vidraru pontoon for a journey on the “sea within the mountains”.
