Invartita Lake, known as Nucsoara Lake, is the largest karst lake in our country formed on gypsum (calcium sulfate and solubile rock). Situated at 780m above sea level, in the region of subcarpatic hillocks between the Valsan River and Doamnei, on the radius of Nucsoara village from Arges county, the lake has been declared a monument of nature and it is included in the area of natural reserve Magura-Nucsoara. First seen at the end of 19th century, the lake has a surface area of 2.2 acres, and a depth of 5 meters, formed into a gypsum sink, through dissolution, then it has suffered settlement processes. Nucsoara village, has a special significance in Romania’s history, here being one of the core anticommunist movements in the southern part of the country, still keeping signs of the harsh past even today.
